What We Teach

Our Little Dragon classes are specifically designed for 3 and 4 year olds. Our program is an excellent way for any child who wants to have fun, burn off some extra energy, and learn some basic life skills, coordination and discipline. The focus of our classes are for the children to have fun, learn respect, learn how to get along with other children, learn how to pay attention, help develop their memory skills and learn how to follow instructions. This class is often a child's first exposure to a group learning environment and it helps them adjust to their upcoming formal education. We try to reinforce teaching of about respect and courtesy and work on increasing concentration and self-discipline

They are refined in their gross motor skills, while establishing a foundation in basic fundamental skills. These basic fundamental skills include: focus, teamwork, control, balance, memory, discipline, fitness, and coordination. In any other sport or activity, all of these 8 skills are important to have. The more exposure to proper development in each of these skills, the better your child will be. Our goal at Karate International is to teach your child how to appropriately defend themselves, get them into great physical shape, and teach them special life lessons. In addition to the physical kicking and punching skills required to learn self-defense, your child will learn how to use discipline, respect, self-control, teamwork, and more to excel in academic school as well as at home with you. They can take these lessons with them and use them for a lifetime!

Sanshinkai Karate
Our Karate is a blend of martial arts styles creating the non-traditional American Karate System.
We study Sanshinkai, this style was developed by Jan Wellendorf, a martial arts instructor, author, business manager, tournament competitor, and 10th degree Black Belt. He began his martial arts study in 1963. He studied Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Okinawan martial arts. He is the retired president of the Karate International organization.
Out of his training grew Sanshinkai Karate. Sanshinkai was founded as a martial art in 1983. The word Sanshinkai means “three power society”, the three powers of mind, body, and spirit. Sanshinkai is not so much a style of martial arts as it is a “way” or method that can be used to enhance any fighting system.
The heart of Sanshinkai teaching is belief that all great techniques contain a balance of mental, physical, and spiritual forces. Each of these forces has three parts which progress the technique to higher levels of speed, power, and timing.
The mixture of styles we teach are American Karate, Isshinryu, Tae Kwon Do, Judo,Ju-jitsu, Weapons Training and more.
Isshin-ryu is a style of Okinawan karate founded by Shimabuku Tatsuo around 1953. Isshinryu karate was brought together through a mix of Shorin-ryu karate and Goju-ryu karate. The name means, "one heart" or "one mind" way. The style, while not very popular in Okinawa, spread to the United States through returning Marines.
This style consists of punches and open hand striking that stay in close to the body and any kicks are almost always aimed toward the lower body.
Judo is a martial art that originated in Japan that was developed from ju-jitsu. Judo was founded by Dr. Jigoro Kano in 1882. Judo literally means "Gentle Way". Judo consists mainly of throws, armbars, leg and ankle locks, and restraint techniques. Practitioners of Judo are called Judokas.
Ju-jitsu is a Japanese art that deals with fighting in close quarters with your opponent. Ju-jitsu is a grappling art in which you use chokes, strangulation techniques, wrist locks, arm bars, leg and ankle locks, throws and takedowns in order to disable or disarm an opponent. Ju-jitsu is an optional program of study at KI.
Karate or karate-dō (空手 or 空手道, "the way of the empty hand") is a martial art of Okinawan origin. Karate is a combination of basic Okinawan fighting arts and Southern Chinese martial arts. In about 1921it was introduced to the Japanese from Okinawa by practitioners who moved to mainland Japan during the early 1900s. One who practices karate is sometimes referred to as a karate-ka.
Karate emphasizes explosive striking techniques such as punching, kicking, open hand strikes, knee strikes and elbow strikes. Grappling, joint locks, throwing, and pressure point fighting are included in advanced student training.
Tae Kwon Do is the most popular of the Korean martial arts and is the Korean national sport. It is also one of the world's most commonly practiced sports. In Korean, Tae means "to kick"; Kwon means "to punch"; and Do means "way" or "art". Taekwondo is loosely translated as "the art of kicking and punching". In general Tae Kwon Do consists of mainly kicks such as jump kicks, spin kicks and flying kicks in order disable an opponent from a distance.
